Before the year is up

little guy in the ceiling holding up the piece.
Hanging glass bowl with porcelain slip and sand-a home for my little snail.
spray foam, fabric, wire, paper mache, coffee filters and a dead bush.

Images from final crit in ceramics.  It was an experimental semester that yielded less than thrilling results, but sometimes that's when you learn the most.  Here's to the new year- new projects, new pieces, new knowledge.

The end is near

It is the week before critique week.  Now is the time to really get things done.
This is the final figure drawing of the semester.  It's pretty exemplary of how I feel; overwhelmed with so much to do I just want to sit with my head in my hands.  I can't believe it is that time of year again.

Hurry, hurry!

The SAIC Holiday Art Sale ends tomorrow!  Make sure to stop by to check out all the great work, from all students, that is still left.  The doors open at 10 am and close at 5 pm, 116 S. Michigan Avenue.  Some of the work pictured here has already found a new home, but some is still available, waiting for you!

Works in progress in the studio II

I should be reading for philosophy, but my brain needs a break.  What better way to relax than to post.
The SAIC holiday art sale is this weekend, so I've been crankin' out little things that will (hopefully) make someone happy to give or get as a gift.  I unload a kiln tomorrow morning that has these little guys in it.  Really looking forward to seeing the results!

This collage is from a workshop that I participated in at the Smart Museum of Art at the University of Chicago.  The workshop was held in conjunction with a exhibition based around figure and pattern.
It's a mix of materials, tissue paper, pen, magazine cutouts and felt.  24" x 42"

Here I am...

...in more ways than one.  Feels good to be sharing work again.
Charcoal and pastel self portrait, 19 1/2" x 25 1/2", done for my figure drawing class.
Now that I have my camera back, a flurry of posts is in the forecast.
