Recycled Circle
Collecting plastic bags is nearly unavoidable and every time I add one to my mounding collection I feel a twinge of guilt about having so many. Today I made a dent in my plastic heap by converting shopping bags into yarn, then crocheting it into a circle. I'm using this "canvas" in conjunction with some other materials for a sculpture to be completed soon. If my conception of the piece fails, I figure I can always use it as a fancy hat in case I ever get invited to a royal wedding.

Redemption
Sometimes you get second chances and I apparently used mine well today. I presented remakes of the fear photos I showed a few weeks ago in photo class. These were received in a much more positive way. Feels good to redeem yourself :)

Ham, anyone?
Happy Easter Sunday! They will be lots of roast ham on dining tables across the globe today, but on mine there's piggie soap! The bacon fat experiment was a success. I have twelve little porkers that smell of chamomile and lavender. I had some extra soap after I finished pouring the pig face molds, so I tinted the soap a deeper shade of pink, poured it in an ice cube tray and made some pig snouts. Oink, oink!

Recently
Whenever I start a new sketchbook I like to look back at the one I just completed to see what I've been thinking about. These are some of my favorites from the book I finished recently. Drawings from February 4-March 26, 2011.

It's almost time!
I made soap out of bacon fat. This was the purifying process about three weeks ago. I had to let it simmer for awhile. I never thought I could not like the smell of bacon.
Lots of piggies! This is a stoneware soap mold I made by using a pig head stamp, also made of stoneware for a project in a ceramic multiples class. I poured my bacon fat soap, once mixed into these babies and let them sit for a few weeks. Very soon I can pop them out and see if I have successful little pig soaps staring back at me! Stay tuned-

Photograph Your Fear
For my photo class midterm we had to photograph our fears. Mine? Shower curtains.
These really got rocked in critique yesterday. The photo world does not like my sense of humor...

The DUMBEST Winners
These two photos were the best of my bunch at photo critique yesterday. My professor repeatedly told me how dumb they are. How painfully obvious they are. So dumb they're clever.
I like them as a pair-limp and stiff!
The Great Divide
I have been thinking about this sculpture for awhile now and finally starting building it at the beginning of this semester. I did the sketch of it about 6 months ago. Obviously the HUGE crack was not planned for, but I've come to embrace it. I think it really adds to the piece and I'm excited to play around with all its possibilities!

My blog's birth!
Fitting for my first post is this ceramic planter piece I've just gotten out of the kiln- A momma with her baby. The silhouette is created through stippling. Oh, the hours spent with this heap of clay...
